Mongolian Beef

A tasty little dinner that also makes great leftovers for lunches.

Beef Marinade Ingredients

  • 700g rump steak- sliced into strips against the grain

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 2 tbsp water

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

Sauce Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1/8 cup soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce

  • 3/4C water

Rest of dish

  • 1 tbsp minced garlic

  • 1 tbsp minced ginger

  • I onion, sliced

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp of water

  • Veggies- I used 2 cups of chopped cabbage, a sliced pepper and some celery


  1. Mix all the beef marinade ingredients together and set aside for 30 minutes

  2. Mix sauce ingredients together and set aside

  3. Heat a pan with oil and then fry beef until crispy and cooked. Set aside.

  4. Add some more oil, ginger and garlic to the pan and cook for 2 minutes. Add in remaining veggies and cook until soft. Add in sauce ingredients, beef and cornstarch mix and cook for 2 more minutes.

  5. Serve on its own or with rice.
